Zimbabwe Records of records 8 482 common diarrhea cases, 9 deaths in a week

The Ministry of Health has recorded a surge in common diarrhea cases across the country

In a statement, by the Ministry of Health and Child Care, during the week ending September 15, 2024, a total of 8,482 cases were recorded and nine reported deaths from several hospitals.

“8 482 common diarrhea cases and 9 deaths were reported this week.

“The deaths were reported from Sally Mugabe Central Hospital (4), Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (1) in Harare Province and, Mpilo Central Hospital (1), in Bulawayo Province, Mwenezi District (1) in Masvingo Province, Nyanga District (2) in Manicaland Province”, reads the statement

Alarmingly, 4,235 of the reported cases involved children under the age of five.

Two provinces recorded the highest number of cases, tallying 257 601 cases and 136 deaths cases countrywide.

“The provinces that reported the highest number of cases were Mashonaland West (1 230) and Manicaland (1 172). The cumulative figures for common diarrhoea are 257 601 cases and 136 deaths”, reads the statement

In the previous week’s report, 10 lives were lost due to diarrhoea.

“7 933 common diarrhoea cases and 10 deaths were reported this week.

“The deaths were reported from Sally Mugabe Central Hospital (2), Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (1) in Harare Province and UBH (2). Mpilo (2), Ingutsheni Hospital (1) in Bulawayo Province Chiredzi (2) in Masvingo Province”, said the Ministry of Health and Child Care
