In a bizarre incident derived from sharing a solitary bedroom as siblings, a 29-year-old Kezi man was dragged to court after raping his own juvenile sister (12-year-old) several times between December 2024 to January 2025.
The man from Ratanyana village under Chief Nyangazonke who cannot be named for ethical reasons appeared before magistrate Busani Sibanda facing rape charges.

Prosecutor Given Moyo told the court that on 24 December 2024, at around night time, the accused who is the complainant's brother and was sleeping in the same bedroom, bed, and blankets ordered her to remove her clothes, a request she turned down before being forcibly undressed and had protected sexual intercourse once with her without her consent.

After three weeks, the accused had protected sexual intercourse once without the complainant's consent, and from there, they had several sexual intercourse without the complainant's consent.

On 28 January 2025, the accused had sexual intercourse with the complainant without her consent again. The matter only came to light when the complainant informed a relative on what had been transpiring all along, who (the relative) then alerted members of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee.

Members of the Neighbourhood Watch then laid an ambush and found the accused amid the act of having sexual intercourse with the complainant inside the bedroom. The matter was reported to the police and their investigations led to the accused's arrest.

The suspect was remanded to February 13 at Gwanda Regional Court and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court or seek the consent of the provincial public prosecutor.
